We’re Almost Ready to Re-open St. Edward’s Church!

Saturday August 22nd at 6.30pm

St. Edward's Church

After weeks of lockdown, during which we took the opportunity to refurbish the church to make it warmer, brighter and fresher, we’re aiming to celebrate our first Mass on Saturday August 22nd at 6.30pm in St. Edward’s church. Sadly, we have to limit numbers at each Mass as we are still required to socially distance by two metres (6 ft) in close proximity indoor environments that don’t have mitigations.  Our Cardinal and Bishops have asked all Catholics to consider attending weekday Masses if you can, to ease the demand for Sunday Masses and retain these for those who work during the week. At present the churches in Burton Latimer, Desborough and Rothwell will remain closed.

Please note that the obligation to attend Sunday Masses continues to be suspended.  Also please do not feel guilty if you currently prefer not to attend Mass in church at all during these strange times as permission is still granted for Spiritual Communion via live streaming, details of which can be found in the Bishop’s Coronavirus (COVID-19) section.  Alternatively visit https://www.churchservices.tv/timetable/

Masses will be provisionally available at the following times

Tuesday mornings at 10am., starting September 8th.

Friday evenings at 7pm., starting August 28th.

Saturday Vigil at 6.30pm., starting August 22nd.

Sundays at 8.30am (not 8am) and 10.30am., starting August 23rd.

Depending on demand and availability of stewards, we may be able to offer more but let’s first of all see how these current arrangements will work. To be fair to all who wish to attend, and to avoid people having to be turned away at the door, we are following diocesan advice and implementing a seat booking system.  We may not need this once things settle down but until we can assess demand, please follow the simple booking procedure which will be published here next weekend.

Person holding a child during baptism

I have received enquiries from couples who wish to have their baby baptised and I’m delighted to now be able to consider this in church.  Under current circumstances, baptisms can now take place, only on Saturdays, with a maximum of 30 people who will need to socially distance in church unless from the same household.  This will be for one baby, one family and the organiser must arrive 30 minutes before the start to meet a steward who will advise on the required sanitising procedure that your party must adopt to clean any seats used or touched surfaces afterwards.  The wearing of face masks by all is requested. Contact the parish office on 01536 512497 or email parish@stedwardskettering.org.uk with initial enquiries.
