Taking Part in the Synod at Parish Level

Synod 2021-2023

Dear Parishioners,

Bishop David is asking us to gather and get involved in the diocesan synod process. I would like to invite you to take part in the synod at our parish level. At the Masses of the weekend of 12/13th February, there will be no homily. Instead, each of us will be given a questionnaire and time to fill it in with our reflections about the Church. There are only four questions on this questionnaire, but I am giving you them in advance to give you time to pray and reflect on your answers.

Q.1 What does it mean to you to be Catholic?

Q.2 What are some of your experiences of the Church doing something well?

Q.3 What are some of your experiences of when things have not gone so well?

Q.4 What are our dreams for the Church?

Please bring a pen with you and fill this form in legible writing. You could also print this form and send it to the parish if you are not able to attend Mass.

Prayer for the Synod

We stand before You, Holy Spirit,
as we gather together in Your name.
With You alone to guide us,
make Yourself at home in our hearts;
Teach us the way we must go
and how we are to pursue it.

We are weak and sinful;
do not let us promote disorder.
Do not let ignorance
lead us down the wrong path
nor partiality influence our actions.

Let us find in You our unity
so that we may journey together
to eternal life and not stray
from the way of truth and what is right.

All this we ask of You,
who are at work in every place and time,
in the communion of the Father and the
Son, forever and ever.
