Marriage

hands with wedding rings

May God the eternal Father
keep you of one heart in love for one another,
that the peace of Christ may dwell in you
and abide always in your home.

May you be blessed in your children,
have solace in your friends
and enjoy true peace with everyone.

(Blessing at the end of a Nuptial Mass)

“For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one.” (Ephesians 5:31). In the Roman Catholic church, the Sacrament of Marriage is more than an agreement or contract between two people to love and care for each other;  marriage is a covenant “by which a man and woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, #1601).  This sacrament helps each man and woman to see the person that God created their spouse to be and calls on them to offer everything that he or she is to help their spouse become that person.
