Pastoral Notes April 12th, 2015

Pope John Paul IIST POPE JOHN-PAUL II

It is ten years since Pope John-Paul died, on 2nd April 2005, on the eve that year of the Second Sunday of Easter, Divine Mercy Sunday. It was a very early Easter that year. His immediate successor, Pope Benedict XVI was then elected, but retired two years ago in 2013. Both these Popes visited England, as well as Scotland, Ireland and Wales. Pope Benedict beatified John Henry Cardinal Newman in Birmingham, where Cardinal Newman worked as a priest of the Oratory, and died there in 1890. Pope John-Paul established the devotion to the Divine Mercy and this Sunday it will be celebrated together for the first time with the Polish community at 3.00pm with a combination of languages!
