Pastoral Notes 5th April 2015

The whole of Easter Week, Easter Sunday to the following Sunday, is celebrated in the Church as one ‘Sunday’. The 2nd Sunday of Easter is now also celebrated as ‘Divine Mercy’ Sunday, and will be celebrated in a special afternoon Mass this year. The daily Reading at Mass is from the Acts of the Apostles, St Luke’s account of the spread of the Church from Jerusalem to Rome, ‘The ends of the earth’. In some eastern traditions, a robust deacon will sing through (chant) the whole of the Acts of the Apostles on Holy Saturday afternoon, before the Easter Vigil. We may consider ourselves as part of the ‘ends of the earth’, celebrating the Lord’s resurrection.
