Connections with saints

Sometimes we are more connected with particular saints than usual.  This week we have the founder of the Society of Jesus (St Ignatius), often known as ‘Jesuits’.  A number of Jesuit martyrs in the time of the Reformation are connected with us, including Blessed Peter Wright of Slipton & Thrapston, but also St Edmund Campion, who was protected in various priest-hiding-holes in our area.  We had a parish mission led by a Jesuit not many years ago, Fr John Edwards, who died quite recently.  Pope Francis entered the Jesuit Society before being elected Pope.

St Alphonsus (Wednesday) is the founder of the Redemptorist Order, (who produce our weekly parish bulletin) who give a variety of services to the Church.

St John Vianney, a 19th century parish priest in France, foresaw a future bishop of Northampton, and the mother of the future bishop bought a bishop’s cross (worn round the neck) on the strength of that prediction.  The cross is in Bishop’s House still as a treasured memory. ouse still as a treasured memory.
