Pastoral Notes 23rd November 2014

Dave Goddard from St Jude’s drop-in centre in Kettering was welcomed to the Parish Forum last Thursday week, 13th November He thanked the Parish for its regular donations to the Foodbank and then explained the two main areas of work done by St Jude’s: as well as the Foodbank it provides a drop-in service for homeless people. These can be sleeping rough, or in officially provided short-term accommodation or ‘the hidden homeless’, staying with friends or relatives. St Jude’s provides breakfast, laundry facilities and internet facilities for rough sleepers or those placed in bed and breakfast accommodation. The centre is open 9.30am to 12 noon on weekdays and applies a strict entitlement policy. The lack of a night shelter in Kettering means relying on Corby, with Rushden and Northampton shelters always full. In below zero weather Wellingborough provides statutory shelter. More volunteers at St Jude’s are always welcome: contact Dave on (01536) 415494.
