Pastoral Notes 21st February, 2016

Not so many generations ago Catholics were discouraged by their pastors from reading the Scriptures, especially the Old Testament, with its stories of human frailty. Now, each week we print the Readings for daily Mass and are encouraged to open the Bible ourselves. The original manuscripts, Letters, Gospels, were not neatly marked out as today. Now we have for some centuries the Biblical Books marked out in Chapters and verses. Every week the Readings of the week are written out in the bulletin. This can seem obscure, but your priests and deacon are more than ready to help if needed. Bibles can be purchased through the Parish. It would seem best to have a translation which is the same as is read at Mass, but there are many versions to choose from.
