Pastoral Notes 14th June 2015

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION
The town of Orvieto north of Rome, in the Middle Ages, a major town in the then Papal States, still holds a very grand ‘Corpus Christi’ procession every year, issuing from a most beautiful medieval Gothic Cathedral. (Basic Bible stories are sculpted on the facade of the Cathedral and major artists have contributed to paintings within). The procession today is still performed in ancient dress, knights in armour on horseback, various Guilds of different trades are represented and crowds come from all over to take part. At the centre is the Blessed Sacrament. In a different setting from the hills of Galilee, it nevertheless is a very startling image of Jesus walking with us in our lives, on our journey, in every age.
