HOLY WEEK – Simon of Cyrene & St Veronica
This year we follow the story of Jesus’ Way of the Cross taken from the Gospel according to Luke, where Simon of Cyrene is named as a man seized by the soldiers to help carry Jesus’ cross, and tradition has named as St Veronica one of the women faithfully accompanying that Journey. It may serve as an image of the Christian Church united in prayer and service. St Luke’s Gospel also includes the words of the good thief crucified with Jesus, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom”, and Jesus’ reply “Today you will be with me in paradise”.
