YEAR OF MERCY
Pope Francis has designated the next Church Year (starting in Advent) as Year with the theme of God’s mercy. He writes, “How much I desire that the year to come will be steeped in mercy, so that we can go out to every man and woman, bringing the goodness and tenderness of God! May the balm of mercy reach everyone”. When the St Vincent de Paul Society received international support from the then Pope, Pius IX, he said how the world will listen rather to works of charity than many words. Our annual 40 hours of prayer before the Blessed Sacrament in St Brendan’s Corby, 21st-23rd September, 6.00am-8.00pm each day, is something we can join in locally, if unable to attend at St Brendan’s, by prayer in our own St Edward’s, open throughout the day, each day. We might adopt the Pope’s theme in that prayer, following the Lord’s words, “Be compassionate as your heavenly Father is compassionate”. (Luke 6:36)
