Pastoral Notes 12th October 2014

Stained Glass picture of St. Edward - Victorian lightPATRON SAINTS
On Monday 13th October we will again celebrate the feast of St Edward the Confessor, accounted a saint for his ‘confession of faith’ rather than martyrdom. He died in 1065 AD, living to see the founding of the shrine of Our Lady at Walsingham, with its Holy House, commemorating the home of the Holy Family at Nazareth. (It was destroyed at the Reformation). We pray for all our parish homes and families. Every year we are at this time included in the mailing-list of Westminster Abbey, which St Edward renewed in his time and where he was buried. In that way he is very much a national figure.
Saturday 18th October is the feast of St Luke, author of the Gospel and Acts of the Apostles. He is patron saint of our Pastoral Area, whose bonds were strengthened by the recent pilgrimage to Rome and many shrines. As St Luke is referred to as a doctor, he is an obvious choice for us where so many work in our Hospitals and Care Homes. We ask for the prayers of our patron saints.
