Pastoral Notes 11th June, 2017

The feast of the Holy Trinity has a special connection with our Northampton Diocese, as our secondary patron is St Thomas Becket. St Thomas became archbishop of Canterbury in 1162. He was a cleric but still not a priest and was ordained priest on the Saturday after Pentecost Sunday, and then on the Sunday after Pentecost he was ordained bishop and also archbishop of Canterbury. He decreed that this anniversary of his ordination should be observed throughout his province as a feast of the Most Holy Trinity, over a hundred and fifty years before the feast was made general in the west. We might pray especially for our own bishop and diocese on this day, also a time of change, praying for God’s guidance.
