To address the peculiar challenges faced by older persons in refugee settlements, development partners want Government to integrate protection into the older person policy of 2009.

Poor shelter, sanitation, queuing for food rations and diseases are some of the challenges faced by the elderly in refugee settlements.

The latest data by United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), shows that Uganda has 1,276,208 refugees, mostly from South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo (RDC)…..A recent protection study by Help Age International and Uganda Reach the Aged Association (URAA) on older South Sudanese refugees in Adjumani revealed that 6 in 10 older people live in fear of safety and that  access to services was not only inadequate, but was also not age-friendly…..

This year’s World Refugee Day was themed, “Step with Refugees – Take a step on World Refugee Day.” The UN urged the global community to show that the global public stood with the Refugees.

Fr. Jo’s contract to enable him to implement his program interventions – in areas of spiritual welfare, food security and soft skills development, for example, has been extended by Government for another three years.”
