Stained Glass picture of St. Edward - Victorian lightOur Patron Saint
It is unfortunate that the feast of our patron saint, Edward, King and Confessor, has fallen this year on a Saturday (13th October), so has been somewhat forgotten. Our original church is now our church-hall, but items from that ‘hall’ were eventually stored in the new church – and partly forgotten. Around 2001 work was arranged by the Diocese to alter, among other things, the lighting in church – which entailed exploring inside the false ceiling. This took curious workmen to a room above the altar, to find a number of pieces of coloured glass, but above all the lovely stained-glass window of St Edward, dated back to around 1893, and now displayed on the left-hand side of the sanctuary. It shows him with a dove on his shoulder, the Holy Spirit guiding his kindly rule. He built a great abbey at Westminster which was completed in 1065, just before he died. May he pray for us.
