Many parishioners have been asking me how we as a parish, can help the people of Ukraine. I had the privilege of hosting the Archbishop of Lviv for a week when I was the parish priest of the Polish community in Northampton. Before he was appointed as Archbishop of Lviv, Monsignor Mieczyslaw Mokrzycki was the private secretary of two Popes – St. John Paul II and then Benedict XVI. In 2007 he was assigned to Lviv.

I have contacted the archbishop, asking how we, as a parish, could help and support the people of Ukraine. He was very grateful because he worries that interest will slowly fade and the problems in the country will remain – in the immediate future and then in the long term. I propose that we have a second collection on the first Saturday/Sunday after Easter, which is Divine Mercy Sunday. All monies will be sent to Archbishop Mokrzycki, who will know best how to allocate them.
